With a Time for Kids subscription, my classroom will come alive with high interest kid-friendly current events articles. My students often struggle with understanding non-fiction content and tend to be extremely shy when required to speak publicly. This magazine will give them the practice and confidence they will need to summarize and report out about important events on a local, national, and global scale.
As the students transform into news reporters to share out what they have learned each week, I believe their knowledge of the world around them, as well as their own self-confidence will increase dramatically. Presenting reports to the class will be a great way to practice public speaking and listening skills before my 5th graders move into middle school. We do so much work on the computer, it will be a refreshing change to have an actual printed magazine to read the old fashioned way. Finally, my students will learn new vocabulary in context through these engaging and colorful pages. Time for Kids would be an amazing way to help create self-assured and informed 5th graders in my classroom!
