Resilience, patience, and hard work. These virtues have too easily eroded in our world of instant gratification. More than ever our young people are in need of a growth-mindset which helps students understand that their potential is never predetermined, but through grit and sustained effort greatness can be accomplished. Reading inspiring biographies and memoirs such as I am Malala, Throw Like A Girl, and Hockey Strong, can help students realize that success looks a lot like hard work. A year ago I started a classroom library and have enjoyed the thrill of students swarming around my shelves and displays but more importantly sharing, discussing, and learning from their books. I have purchased many novels but am in great need of non-fiction works, specifically memoirs and biographies. This project will foster students' love of reading and also inspire necessary character traits for success in life such as courage, resilience, and grit.
