These materials will help my students feel more comfortable in the classroom by providing them different seating, lighting, and instructional opportunities.
My students need to feel empowered to take their learning into their own hands. I try to provide as many opportunities for them as possible to work individually, with partners, and in small groups. When we break into this type of grouping I allow for my students to pick where they feel most supported and safe to do their work. They often times choose the floor or lowered seating. They very rarely choose a traditional desk and chair when given the chance to work somewhere else. I'd love to make my classroom their very own study space, like the living room of their own home.
