Today's classroom seating is moving away from metal chairs and tables to alternative, flexible seating. The idea of flexible seating is to create a personalized, comfortable learning environment to help each student learn with items such as wobble cushions, balance balls, scoop rockers, stools, and chair fidget bands. Providing students with a choice in seating options and where to sit helps meet their unique individual learning needs.
Comfortable=Vested. Students become more vested in the task being presented when they are comfortable. By giving students control over their seating, they feel empowered. Choosing the most suitable seating motivates students and enhances creativity. Research also states that flexible seating in the classroom promotes student participation, interaction, and collaboration.
Flexible seating benefits all students. Active students are able to channel their energy productively, it helps learners focus, and aides in the development of improved posture.Â
