Support Mrs. Bauer's classroom with a gift that fosters learning.
In the past, when students walked into a classroom, they were presented with one seating option. They were expected to sit in this spot for a large portion of the day and be engaged. It is no surprise that the majority of 5th graders can not do this. Many times, I catch myself saying "Four on the floor please" but in reality, I can not expect children at this age to be able to accomplish this. We need the ability to move in order to be engaged.
There are so many alternative seating options for students. The two that I am the most interested in, and the two I feel would be the most beneficial for my students, are wiggle stools and stability balls. These "chairs" give students the flexibility to move while learning. They allow the student to lightly sway, bounce or wiggle without distracting those students around them. It is my goal to get as many flexible seating opinions as possible so students can use what works best for them and allows them to be the most engaged.
