Tables will allow students to see that the classroom is focused around collaborative discussions. Students will be focused on discussions instead of playing with items inside of their desk. Tables make it easier to group students when you need to work with smaller groups to provide extra support or enrichment.
They will learn that everyone has a role in group discussions, no one is allowed to just sit there and not participate. Students will learn what makes a successful group and how to work together on class assignments and projects. They will hopefully become a more cohesive group by working at tables instead of individual desks.
