We need engineering building kits to learn how to build structures. My students will learn basic engineering skills by building and creating various structures. The engineering kit includes actual pictures of cars and bridges and hands on manipulatives the students can use to recreate the picture. They will also be able to use the manipulatives in the kit to expand their thinking and create their own structures. Each kit includes many pieces they can engineer and create many types of bridges and vehicles. This will take place during the learning centers.
By working in cooperative groups, they will be able to discuss what they would like to build. This will help my ELL students by hearing the english language in a small group setting and feeling more comfortable to interact with their peers. The children learn best by hands on activities. After it is built, they will be able to share what they have created. This is a good vocabulary skill for my ELL students.
To enhance my students language skills, they will have to describe what they have built.
The children will become very creative in what they are building. They will be able to explore many building opportunities.
