All of these materials, although there may be a lot, will help these students academically and socially. All of the composition notebooks, crayons, pencils, erasers, markers, colored pencils, and glue sticks will be used in our major subjects: Phonics, Readers & Writers Response, Math, Science, and Social Studies. We do all of these subjects daily so the more supplies, the better. They will buddy read in a cozy environment with a multi-word wall rich classroom, which the pocket charts will be essential to see vocabulary words differentiated per subject to keep their minds fresh of what they are learning. We are taking an enormous shift in out classroom this year on guided reading and a big part of that is centers. Students will be more self-aware of their responsibilities of the day during guided reading and center time by using the Literacy Centers Management chart. They will have materials on the first day of school, such as folders to take home papers and return papers, folders for classwork, folders for writing samples, and folders for tests. Students will also make use of name templates, both on their desks and lockers, to locate their supplies easily and these nameplates are essential to students with no English background as a reminder of basic numbers, letters, shapes, colors, and even their classmates' names. Last, but not least, my classroom has NO WHITE BOARD SPACE and all blackboard, which makes the classroom dull and colorless. The fadeless paper will cover all of these walls to make students walk into a warm, colorful, vibrant environment, which allows students to be excited to learn everyday. Last year I purchased all of these items single handedly, so whatever help I receive this year, both myself and my students fully appreciate it :)
