Flexible seating is a way to provide my students with comfort during independent and small group learning. The variety of options allow my students to have control over their learning and allow them to work best in their desired spot. Lastly, these different seating options will give my classroom more of a community feel, it allows for collaboration between the students.
A student who is comfortable, in control, and part of a community is a student who is set up for success. A classroom is meant to be student centered and allow for optimum learning, flexible seating will do this for my students.
The materials I am looking to purchase include rockers, a high table, inflatable seat cushions, lap tables, and some stools for our small group table. These materials can all be moved anywhere in the classroom so that the students can truly choose a spot they are comfortable working in. Students can work on the floor, while standing, or choose somewhere else to sit. I love that my students can have such a variety of materials to choose from so that they feel they have control over their learning environment. And lastly, because these materials were strategically chosen, they can also be used with partners or in a small group to encourage collaboration. I want my students to thrive in my classroom and I feel as though through flexible seating they will do just that.
