Most of my students come from homes without technology resulting in them being behind. When they leave me and go to middle school they will be expected to be in 5-7 classes where the majority of work will be through Google classroom. My students will benefit from these laptops because they will be able to take part in a blended learning environment. A blended learning classroom benefits my students by having them more engaged, no lost work, differentiation is easier, and they will have the tools needed to succeed in middle school.
They will be able to create digital products (e.g. videos, slide presentations, word documents), collaborate, or hold discussions about relevant topics over digital platforms. My school district uses the Smarter Balance (SBAC) assessment as their state test to show growth and progress over the course of the academic year.
This assessment is taken solely on the computer, and requires students to have experience with technology. Due to the economic status of my students and the current state of our school’s technology, they do not have the technology skills required to apply the knowledge they have gained in the classroom. These Chromebooks will give my students the necessary experience they need, at school, to show how they have excelled throughout the year.
