Flexible seating benefits can transform my classroom into a highly functional space where students feel supported and understood. It can promote teamwork in the classroom as well as accommodate individual student needs.
"Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking." (Edutopia.org)
Since implementing flexible classrooms, our County Public Schools have noticed that:
Their students' grades have improved, their students seem happier and more engaged and heir students are participating more and having more invigorating conversations.
Last year, I was allowed to ditch my desks and provide flexible seating. My students feel comfortable in my classroom and work well together. Unfortunately, most of my tables were purchased at garage sales and I have already replaced many of the chairs and a few of the tables. The items I have selected are made for daily use by students and I believe they will last far longer than my garage sale treasures.
