I am one of the teachers in our school that was chosen to pilot our new Kindergarten Reading/Language program. Since this is a new curriculum, there are many things that we need that we do not have in our classroom. I have chosen items for a writing center, a listening and reading center, and chair back holders to make their school supplies easily accessible. All of the writing tools I have chosen are to benefit Kindergarten age children with left to right reading and writing, and learning their letters and sounds. The listening center I chose is specifically for a small group to listen to a story on CD and follow along with their books. It gives them a place to listen as well as books, earphone and the hardware needed. It is so hard when 25 children all need their workbooks and get up to get them. There is chaos in the room. Even if we use an orderly system to get our things, it takes away precious learning time. By having the chair back holders, the children only need to reach behind them to retrieve their belongings. These items will help me implement our new curriculum with all the learning centers. My kids deserve every chance we can give and make possible for them. They will be excited about learning and want to come to school. When children don't realize they are working, and just think, "Hey, this is fun!", they learn so much; and as a teacher, it is thrilling to watch and be a part of!!
