The materials that I am requesting serve many purposes for both the love of reading that my students have as well as the planning of instruction. As my students love to read, updating the classroom library has become a priority.
Being able to complete multiple book series will allow students to continue reading the series that they love and increase student interest in reading! It became apparent after inventorying my classroom library, that many of the series within the library are incomplete. Series, such as The Good Earth, Enchanted, and The Inheritance Cycle, are missing their companion books.
Secondly, I teach a Holocaust unit to the eighth grade students through fiction, as well as non-fiction texts. This allows students to gain and practice key reading skills, while also learning about important historical events that have had a lasting effect on the world. To improve the instruction of this unit, it is important for students to have a variety of texts to select from.
My classroom is a resource for students and teachers to access daily.
As I teach sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, and am the only literature teacher in our building, it is important for me to maintain a library with texts that are of high interest, complexibility, and serve instructional purposes.
