Flexible seating is the first step towards independent learning. It allows students to make decisions, rather than being told what to do, or in this case where to sit. Giving my students a choice about their seating will help them be successful in the classroom. This first step of allowing flexible seating unlocks collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking among children. I need some new rugs for them to sit on and also some lap desks for writing or use of Chromebooks.
Benefits of incorporating flexible seating into classrooms can include:
Better health
Less stress
Strengthened mental health
Effective learning
Better cognitive performance
Higher ability to concentrate
Improved memory retention
Higher academic achievement
Improved behavior
Fewer disciplinary incidents are reported
