Alternative seating, such as the Butterfly stools I am requesting, provides students with some choice and autonomy over how they learn and function in the classroom. Research has consistently found that allowing students to have flexible seating improves their metabolism, improves core strength and posture, and allows students to focus more intensely on their tasks.
I have already begun to set up my classroom in an alternative seating manner, and would be thrilled to add to it with these chairs. I currently have: a bench with lapdesks, 4 crate seats, a lawn chair, and chairs with trays. When I asked students this last week what they liked the most about 4th grade so far, the overwhelming response was the flexible seating. I know that these seats will help them go far.
