These read alouds will allow my students the opportunity to experience good literature. They will not only learn about good writing through these books, but also life, social skills, confidence, the world around them, and what good readers do to get the most from any text.
For example, any Dr. Seuss book will teach a young reader how words can work together, as well as how writers can "play" with language. Another example is the book The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, told from the Wolf's perspective. This book teaches young learners about understanding different perspectives and how this skill is important in reading AND in life. Read aloud books teach young learners a wide range of reading skills (making connections, setting, plot, character, etc.) and life skills (empathy, perspective, friendship, social issues, etc.)
Every reader should finish a book and be changed in some way. These books will bring all this to my students.
