My school has limited funds. We have determined that our priority with our money needs to be focusing on language arts skills. Our scores have risen greatly, but our science curriculum is suffering. I purchased a project on Teachers Pay Teachers to create STEM kits for my classroom. I am excited about having activities that will engage and inspire students to be creative while practicing math and science skills. I intend to use these kits not only as lessons, but also as motivating rewards for students. I hope to encourage a desire to learn about science, technology, engineering, and math by rewarding students with fun STEM projects that use materials like rubber bands, string, tape, and marbles. My wishlist includes some of the following items which will be used to build structures: Legos, magnetic blocks, wooden blocks, play dough, foam balls, toothpicks and many other items. The students will be asked to build structures such as shapes, vehicles, boats, slides, houses, mazes and bridges among other things. The students will then be asked to make it be taller or wider, to hold weight or to be useful. The students will build these structures using the donated items, then use problem solving to improve it. Lessons will include time to reflect about what didn't work, time to see what worked for others, then class time to work and make it more functional and better.
