Once my project is funded, students will be able to come to my room to check out books, much like they would at an actual library. I hope to have a wide selection so any student could find a book to read regardless of ability or interest. I also made it clear to my students that this would be as much their project as mine. I wanted them to have a say in what books we would receive, so I took a poll before requesting books. Before finalizing this project, I also confirmed at least one request from each student was included.
My students have said they do not enjoy reading because they are not able to read books that they want to read. Letting students choose a book to read is difficult though when the selection is thin. Having extra reading options in my classroom will help solve this issue and create a lifelong love of reading for my students! Oftentimes, many of my students' preferences are unavailable at our school, and traveling to a public library is not always feasible. I know my students want to read, and I want to provide them with interesting and relatable texts.
