My students spend about half of our day focused on literacy. This includes reading and writing. My students love reading but deserve books with diverse characters. They should feel represented when picking a book from our classroom library.
We will use diverse books and art supplies during our Around the World Unit. My students study different cultures and celebrations from around the world. The diverse books will help them learn about cultures and celebrations.
The art supplies are so that my students can create art projects after our readings. They will be able to draw or create characters with diverse paper and crayons. Furthermore, we would be able to extend the learning and share the cultures and celebrations from our classroom if students were to create themselves.
