In the 21st century it is important to focus not only on what students are learning, but how they are learning. My goal this year is to incorporate more hands on labs and technology equipment in my chemistry classroom. One piece of equipment that is central in the chemistry lab is the balance. A balance measures mass with units of grams. Most of my students have never seen or know how to use an electronic balance. I want my students to become more comfortable with utilizing technology so they can collect and analyse data like a scientist.
The donations to this project will go towards purchasing new electronic balances that measure mass more precisely to one hundredths of a gram. Mass is an important variable and measurement when dealing with chemical reactions, stoichiometry, determining the experimental mass of a product, thermodynamics, creating solutions, calculating molarity, etc. Thank you for your help!
