Having several Kindle Fires and protective cases, will allow my students to work together or separately during different parts of our day. During Daily 5 they will be using them to read together or listen to books. During silent reading time, they will allow students to read books that are not available to them through our classroom library and occasionally during Social Studies and Science. They will be able to read and look up information about what we are studying. During reading they will be using the Kindle Fire to open the world up to all different adventures both fictional and nonfictional.
The Kindle Fires will allow all my students, regardless of ability, the opportunity to build their love of reading in an interactive manner. Since students abilities differ, having technology that students can not only find a book and read it themselves but can also offer a chance to listen to the book if the student can not read well is invaluable. Hearing the books read and following along will help them, students begin to recognize and read the words that they are unfamiliar with which helps them become better and more fluent readers.
