The college application process has changed dramatically since I was a high school student! Many years ago, we would send letters to colleges we were interested in to ask for information and applications. Now it's all done online. The obstacle we face is that most of our students come from low income families and receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. They don’t have computers at home, and, unfortunately, we can't always access the few computers we have in our school.
I would love to set up a lab where students can research colleges, write essays, and apply using the Common Application and Naviance Program. The next step would be to assist them in researching scholarships, helping them fill out the FAFSA and CSS Profile as well as NCAA Clearing House. Underclassmen would be able to use the computers during their free period to take the SAT practice test, register for SATs & ACTs, and take career interest inventories.
With your help, we can help make their dream of higher education come true!
