I LOVE reading aloud to my students and love getting into the characters. One of the things that we must teach in schools today along with academics is what it means to be kind. This book is by far the BEST BOOK, in my opinion, to help in having the students understand what it means to not just be a good friend, but to accept our differences.
When given the choice between being right or being kind: CHOOSE KIND! Wonder is a book that goes through the journey of a boy, Auggie Pullman, who was born with facial cranial deformities. It describes the struggles that he encounters when starting his 5th grade year at Beecher Prep in a "real classroom." The book is told from the different point of views of the main characters and the struggles they face when dealing with Auggie.
Auggie and Me is another book that gives readers an extra peek into Auggie's life before starting 5th grade and more insight on his first year at Beecher Prep.
