By having calculators that are all the same, we will be able to focus on teaching NEW concepts rather than how to use the different calculators. In geometry, students learn about sign, co-sign and tangent. Many of the calculators differ in how this information is inputted. We also focus on order of operations. Because calculators are different, the way information is inputted affects the outcome or answer.
Special education and at at-risk students need consistency. Having to teach them to use the different types of calculators takes away from valuable instructional time where new skills could be being taught. Using only one type of calculator would be greatly beneficial to our students.
