Who wants to sit in a desk all the time? Using bean bag chairs and other sorts of "different" spots to sit encourage my students to read more and more. Our first fifteen minutes of reading class is silent reading and my students love it.
They really do get lost in their books.
When the timer goes off I hear a sigh or someone shouts "Can we get 5 more minutes?". Having a fun place to sit makes reading all the better. Students can relax while they read or write in my classroom. These bean bags will also touch the students who may not like reading so much. A bean bag chair makes reading better.
