I know that when I work, I want the opportunity to choose the seating that is comfortable for me for the task I'm looking to complete. I want my students to have that same opportunity in an effort to optimize the learning in my classroom.
Sometimes, students need to sit at a desk to complete a project and other times they need a comfortable place on the floor to read to a partner. Too often, students are asked to sit still in a hard back chair, pulled up to their desks, ready to work. However, in my classroom I want students to choose a pillow to sit EEKK next to a partner to read to someone. Students who have the need to move while working in their seats can do so with a wobble chair. Some of the stresses of third grade reading can be alleviated with a relaxing pillow to curl up with while reading to self.
