My classroom community is built through our time spent together as a whole group. Having a classroom rug with space for everyone, would allow for each student to have the space to feel free to be themselves and to help further encourage a stronger classroom community.
Much of our learning in First Grade takes place with a partner or in a small group. Having a rug would allow my kids to have the space to spread out and feel more comfortable sharing with their partners during classroom instruction.
We also use many hands on tools for learning, and having a larger rug would help allow students to more effectively use their tools without worrying about invading another classmate's space.
