The set of multi-ethnic dolls and accessories will allow the children in my classroom to have multiple opportunities to increase their awareness and appreciation of diversity. Children will have the opportunity to explore diversity in family structure, gender roles, and abilities. The materials I am requesting will avoid using stereotypes. The items will also allow students to learn about various disabilities through the use of the wheelchair, leg braces, crutches, walker, and the cane and seeing eye dog. In addition, these materials will also offer opportunities for my students to learn rich vocabulary associated with the differences found in groups of people with regard to race, culture, abilities, age, or gender.
