My project is composed of new intermediate level texts, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, Rules, and two other novels, for my classroom. With these texts I will construct a text set for my students so that they will be able to explore a wealth of experiences, and learn about different cultures, perspectives and points of view. I have chosen these texts carefully, as they represent some of my students own experiences and ethnic backgrounds so that they can be more connected to what they are reading. These texts also contain experiences and themes that will open my students' minds to other perspectives, such as being a refugee or living with a disability. With these texts my students will also be creating opinion essays, persuasive essays, photo collages, character diagrams, role-plays and other projects to express their understanding.
With your generous gift my students will be able to put themselves in the shoes of characters who will open their eyes to the world around them. These texts will also enable me to teach acceptance, diversity, and point-of-view, while also entertaining my students and providing opportunities for supplemental reading and learning. Thank you again for your gift of literature and advancing the skills and understanding of my students.
