For many students, creating something they can actually use is very exciting and a great way to boost self esteem. In the art room, students have the opportunity to create things out of clay. Clay, among its many uses, can be used to make things like cups and bowls to eat and drink out of. However, without glaze to seal the clay, a ceramic vessel is not food safe. The feeling of joy that occurs when a person eats from or drinks from something they made with their own two hands is something every single one of my students deserves to experience. To gain this experience, we need glaze for our pots. We have the clay, now all we need is the glaze!
