My students excel in the visual arts and our main focus in the Talented Art program has been on the fine arts, but in this day and age the Applied Arts is where careers are made for artists. So I would like to make a change this year in my curriculum to focus on the Applied Arts which uses technology at its forefront.
Students will have the ability to create short films using the Stikbot Studio app on their cell phones, the green screen set, stikbot/lego characters and set props purchased with the money raised. Inside the app they are able to edit and add or record sound to make their short films come to life.
More than just using technology, students will have to first develop strong storytelling skills writing their scripts. They will have to think like a director deciding on props and sets. They will have to think like a cameraman deciding on angles and close ups. We hope to do all of this through the aid of our book "The Animation Lab."
It it my hope that through this project students will see another avenue through which their creativity can lead to real world skills.
