My students need a soft spot to call their own. I am moving down from a carpeted kindergarten classroom to a hard, cold titled Four-Year-Old kindergarten classroom. We need a classroom rug to give our students a "home base" in the classroom.
Many of my kiddos experience trauma at home and need a calm, soft, and safe space to play and learn throughout the day. My students are entering school for the first time, I want them to feel excited, welcomed and to have a soft spot to call their own.
The classroom rug is a "home base" for everything we do. We gather first thing in the morning on the rug to sing, build community and calendar. We read stories, makes friends, and play games on the rug. Having hard, cold tile is great for clean up, but not for creating a safe, comfortable learning environment.
