Having relatable books on my book shelves is the only way my students will pick up a book. I require my students to read every night for 20 minutes. My school doesn't have an updated library; therefore, they check out my books. The larger variety of books I have, the more options the students have to pick from for their reading homework
My students will read these books. They are constantly reading my books and asking for specific titles. Reading is essential for learning! Sometimes I don't have extra money to purchase the books my students want to read.
On average I buy 10 new books a year and sometimes that isn't enough. I know my students will appreciate the new books!
