I am a first grade teacher at a title one school outside of Salt Lake City, Utah! I have been teaching now for 10 years. My whole teaching career as been spent at title one schools and I have loved being part of these schools each year.
With that being said, many of my students come with their own sets of challenges each school day. Some of my students are refugees and learning English for the first time as a second language. This can be overwhelming for them and a challenge on it's own for them to be able to communicate how they feel, how they learn, and being able to understand what is going on around them. I also have students who come from low income households. Some of these students depend on the school for support with food, clothing, and other basic needs. This provides a challenge for students who need their needs met before they are able to learn academics. My students are incredible and resilient!
