Support Mrs. Tacchino's classroom with a gift that fosters learning.
My goal is to create a classroom library with a wide variety of books that will encourage my students to develop a love of reading.
The children I teach come from low income families and most do not have ANY books at home to practice reading.
In second grade, reading is a new skill for them which they must practice often. Having these books in my library for them to check out to read, both at home and school will ensure that they get the practice necessary to become fluent readers. I chose chapter books for advanced students, leveled readers for struggling readers and picture books for on-level readers.
My current classroom library is inherited from a teacher who retired and the books are worn, damaged and dated. The subjects and colors are not enticing to the students.
