My students will not only learn to play simple songs on the ukulele, but they will be able to transfer those lessons into other areas of the classroom. Music is cross-curricular!! Through music and learning to play the ukulele, students will experience 1st grade curriculum in a fun and engaging manner. Within music, students are exposed to natural rhythms and intonations, much like we hear and feel when we read. Music is a proven method to improve language skills and increase vocabulary (especially for EL students). Songs are broken up into measures, counts and patterns, just like in math. Additionally, through music, complex concepts in science and social studies can be broken down to be more understandable and enjoyable. I aim to inspire my students to gain a love for music AND a love for all academics.
