I want my students to see themselves in the books we read! So many of my students struggle with self image. They worry about the color of their skin, their hair, the way they speak and the list goes on. I want to show them that they are perfect just the way they are. I know I can do this through wonderful authentic literature.
Through these books my students can read and hear about successful and wonderful people who look just like they do. As they are learning and growing it's critical that they understand they have something special to add to the world. They have unique gifts and abilities that only they possess. I want them to understand that they don't have to change who they are to experience love, happiness and success.
