Kindergartners gain new skills through the use of all of their senses. They move, sing, listen, play, watch, and create their way into learning. I want to inspire my students to love reading, especially at a time when learning how to read may be intimidating. These materials will enable me to create Literacy Backpacks for my students to carry their learning beyond the classroom, regardless of what they may or may not have available to them at home.
Literacy Backpacks will provide an exciting way for students to engage in reading and comprehension activities at school, as well as with their family. Each Literacy Backpack will have thematic items that allow children to read, listen, retell, and play, using familiar stories and well-loved characters, such as Curious George, Biscuit, Pete the Cat, The Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly, Rainbow Fish, Dr. Seuss, Animals, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. From books and CD's, to puppets and games, kids will have the tools they need to dive into reading!
