Willow Brook is a Title 1, A+ School. In my classroom we have the honor of participating in the Oklahoma Excel program through the inclusion in a Networked Improvement Community (NIC). We have also been piloting the updates to the district writing rubric.
Writing and literacy are personal passions of mine. As you may or may not know, using play and art in the classroom as teaching tools is a powerful cross curricular device to bring concepts to students who otherwise aren't being reached. It helps students develop empathy, abstract thinking, inference and interpretation, encourages deeper thinking and problem solving. Most importantly, it makes the school day more fun, which is what a child needs at this point in their development. Donor’s Choose donations have helped expand the learning environment in my classroom, and for that I am truly grateful.
