Physical literacy can help students to become active adults. For my situation, I have classes of 25 middle school students in an elementary sized gym. Due to the limited space, I need to find creative ways to engage students in small-sided games, while increasing the time spent being active and reducing the risk of injury. Since volleyball requires a big space and only so many students can participate at one time, Spikeball helps students develop those hand striking skills that can transfer to many other sports and activities.
My students will use the Spikeball sets to work on teamwork, hand-eye coordination, strategy, and to create a lifelong love for physical activity. Spikeball is a very engaging game that incorporates many different skills to achieve physical literacy. It can be modified and leveled to the needs of beginner students, and can also be modified to meet the needs of even your most advanced students. This will not only benefit the athletic students but each and every child that steps foot in my class
