"I get sad every time I hear a person say, "I don't read." Its like saying "I don't learn, or I don't laugh, or I don't live." (Author Unknown) Each academic year when I ask my students if they like to read, much of the time a vast majority will tell me no. As a result, I feel that it is my job to inspire students to develop a love of reading. Each year I select texts that are engaging, challenging, and thought provoking. It is my belief, in order to develop a love of reading students first need to find texts that they feel they can relate to on a personal level. If they can make connections between themselves and the characters they are more likely to develop a passion for reading. The texts that I have requested will be incorporated into my reading curriculum. We will be reading them as a group and complete projects based on the text. Each text selected is carefully based on the developmental needs of my students. Each text can also be used for cross curricular teaching.
