My students are coming in to learn chemistry in the 21st century way. We need to have the basic scientific equipment and technology in order to accomplish that. Having necessary scientific equipment and technology will engage my students in chemistry. My goal is use these tools to help students to be competent in laboratory skills, academic skills, as well as life skills. Some of my students are unable to afford a scientific calculator. Having a class set of calculators will help them learn stoichiometry, metric conversions, and mathematical skills for chemistry. Scales will be essential elements for my students to achieve mass measurements on various chemicals. Chemical spray bottles, glass bottles, and infrared thermometer will be used for our thermochemistry, chemical equilibrium, and other various hands-on labs. In terms of technology, the Apple TV will be used for iPad connection to show exclusive Apple apps such as interactive periodic table, NOVA Elements, and various virtual labs. While I am teaching, AirPlay will allow live streaming of the iPad, creating a dynamic learning environment for the students.
