My classroom is comprised of 28 low-income bilingual students transitioning to English. When you walk into room 003 you will see a classroom of busy 9 and 10 years olds reading, writing, and collaborating to solve problems. Sunlight shines in from the windows and hand-made posters line the walls reminding students of all they have learned thus far in the school year. Students sit with their desks clustered together in groups of 4 and 5. After working independently, students partner up and work together to complete group projects that share their learning with the class.
It's a joyful place of teaching and learning but it is not without its challenges. Our district is currently amidst a financial crisis leaving our school very under-resourced. I regularly have to spend my own money to provide basics for my classroom including pencils, crayons, dry-erase markers, and books. Any help is appreciated!
