I teach at a Title 1 school in California. Our students come from a variety of economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. 87.5% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. About 3/4 of my students are Hispanic, 19% are black, and the remaining students are Asian, Pacific Islanders, and white. Languages spoken by our class are Spanish, English, Urdu, and Tongan.
Our 3rd grade class is full of hard-working, curious, and bright scholars, the large majority of whom come from bilingual households. I strive to provide culturally relevant content and teach through a social justice lens. My students are taught to see multiple perspectives, always remain curious, and view any challenge with a growth mindset.
