The building bricks and block tape will be used to create 27 3-dimensional interactive number lines for use at each student's seat. There are a number of benefits of the number line. It is paramount in mathematics and numeracy for students to see the physical, tangible representation of a quantity.
These number lines will also be used to compare quantities and aid in answering the often difficult question of "how many more?" These special number lines will be a focus in whole class discussion and support children in developing mathematical language. As the year progresses, the lines can be used for basic addition and subtraction. The repeated multiple representations of quantity will improve recognition and memory.
