The students on my caseload have varying disabilities which impact their ability to listen to and attend to stories during small group speech therapy sessions. It is important to provide learning materials that include multi-sensory experiences. This is the way these children learn best.
The requested books paired with manipulatives will provide a different way of learning for these children. They would benefit from not only hearing the stories but also seeing and touching the felt pieces the requested kits offer. In addition, these storytelling kits would make small group speech therapy sessions more interactive, which may improve social skills within the group. In addition, the table top story board will allow me to present the stories both during small group speech sessions as well as whole group lessons within the preschool and/or sub-separate classrooms.
If this project is supported, my students would be provided with a multi-sensory opportunity to allow them to make connections to the books. Overall, their experience will be more enjoyable because they will be able to hear, see and feel the books presented to them.
