Throughout the day, my kiddos have core instruction, walk-to groups, and intervention groups focused on ELA and Mathematics. That's six learning blocks devoted to building up basic skills, filling the gaps, and extending their knowledge of reading and math.
When so much of our day is devoted to these core subjects, it can be tricky to take a deep-dive into Washington State history! Integrated units allow us to extensively study our past in a more exciting and captivating way than what a textbook alone can offer. With "Streams to the River, River to the Sea" and "Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie," my students will see history come alive in our Lewis & Clark and Oregon Trail units. Each student will have access to a book of their own to assist in timeline activities, drawing and understanding maps, journal writing, text structures, and research projects.
