Many items on this Donor's Choose Project are geared towards flexible and comfortable seating. Movement is very important in education because it increases the oxygen to our brains! As first graders, my students need lots of movement. The stools, bouncy seats, rug, floor cushions, bouncy bands, foam tiles, and bean bag chairs will allow students to not only make smart choices on where they would like to sit, but it will allow for the movement that is so needed at this stage of their development. I believe that the organization and setup of the classroom is an important component in setting the tone for the school year. Not only will my students be encouraged and allowed to make seating choices, but they will also be able to make their own choices during our Daily 5 block. Students will choose books that are a good fit for them (these books will be organized in the baskets provided by this project), they will also develop a strong sense of community by sharing supplies (many of which are being purchased through this project as well), and helping to keep our classroom clean and organized. The final items that will be added to our awesome classroom when this project's goal is reached are books that will help to teach my students character and growth mindset. We will use these not only as a fun read aloud, but we will also complete enrichment activities to help my students develop perseverance, confidence, tenacity, accountability, and independence!
