I think having the same calculator being used by all students in my 5 classes of Algebra and Geometry will go along way to solve an equity issue in my classroom. Having a bunch of different calculators is challenging for students. Some have math type and some have "pretty print." Some can do fractions. Some can give answers as decimals or fractions, etc. Students will race to get the "good" calculators at the beginning of class. Some calculators are so "not user-friendly" that it only adds to the frustration that some of the students already have about mathematics. I would like a "level" playing field in my classroom.
