Over two months of the curriculum, my AP Students will be reading in Literature Circles, groups of six that choose a text to read together. They collaborate to understand and analyze it. It is a great way to give them choice and ownership over their learning. The first month they will be choosing plays that are funny, ironic, or satirical. The second month they will be choosing a metaphorical novella.
My students in particular need access to quality, thematically complex texts that are also accessibly written--the kind of texts that are underrepresented in the DOE catalog. These books fit that bill--interesting, complex, accessible. They are also unavailable for purchase through our school's system.
